Emma Lo attends The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. She began piano at the age of 5 and currently studies under Dr. Igor Resnianski at the Nelly Berman School of Music. She was named the MTNA Pennsylvania State Winner (2015), Honorable Mention (2016), and Alternate (2017 & 2018). She was awarded first prize in Division 3 (Ages 14-18) at the 2018 Steinway Piano Competition, two first prizes in the Children’s (2014) and Junior (2016) Categories at the West Chester University Pre-Collegiate Piano Competition, and second prize at the New Orleans Piano Institute’s Solo Competition (2015). She was appointed as the Harmony For Peace Foundation’s Junior Peace & Music Ambassador for 2018. She has performed as a soloist with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra, the Warminster Symphony Orchestra, the Ambler Symphony, the Old York Road Symphony, and the New Orleans Civic Symphony. She was one of five semi-finalists in the Junior Division of the 2019 Philadelphia Orchestra Albert M. Greenfield Student Competition. She has also appeared twice on the WRTI radio station. Aside from piano, Emma also plays the violin. She currently studies under Amy Oshiro-Morales and Sylvia Ahramjian. She is co-concertmaster of The Shipley School String Orchestra and principal second violinist of Temple University Boyer College’s Center for Gifted Young Musicians Youth Chamber Orchestra (2018-2019). She has participated in the PMEA All-State Orchestra Festival as a first violinist. Outside of music, she plays tennis and squash, and her favorite subject is history. In her spare time, she enjoys creative writing and doing calligraphy.
