The "Back to BACH" Project

Yoav Hayut, 20, is an undergraduate violinist at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music pursuing a BME for Instrumental Education. Yoav began his violin studies at the age of 7 after a year of nagging his parents to play the high-sounding instrument that caught his attention at an orchestra concert. Around high school he moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he began studying under faculty members at the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. Throughout his whole high school career, he was a member of the Pioneer High School Symphony Orchestra, occasionally serving as concertmaster. In addition to the opportunities gained by his school orchestra, he led the Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra in its 2017-18 Season as its concertmaster, under the baton of Professor Anthony Elliot. With Professor Elliot, he had the privilege of performing such works as Copeland’s Billy the Kid Suite, Daugherty’s Red Cape Tango, Abels’ Global Warming, and the famous Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. Now, Yoav is studying under former ASTA President Dr. Brenda Brenner at the Jacobs School of Music, finding a new home in Bloomington. As an undergraduate, he hopes to pursue more passion projects, including getting more experience teaching violin, conducting opportunities, poetry projects, and more. In his free time, he enjoys the company of his friends and exercising, as well as listening to the newest and oldest albums he can find that pique his interest.
