Luka Coetzee
Member and R.D. Since Fall 2019
Luka Coetzee, 14, currently studies with cellists John Kadz and Johanne Perron. A winner of the 2016 Calgary Concerto Competition, Luka performed as soloist with the Calgary Civic Symphony. She won first prize in the Canadian Music Competition in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2018. She is also a continuous winner of the Alberta Provincial Music Festival, representing Alberta in the Canadian National Music Festival. She is a semi-finalist of the OSM Concerto Competition and will be competing in November. Luka has appeared on radio and television globally including Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the Canadian Press, and Global TV. She has also worked with artists including Johannes Moser, Frans Helmerson, Hans Jorgen Jensen, Thomas Landschoot, Laurence Lesser, and Richard Aaron, as well as renowned quartets including the Pacifica Quartet, Kronos Quartet, the Calidore String Quartet, and the Schumann Quartet. Luka is a passionate chamber musician and is a member of the Three Sisters Trio. Her past two summers were spent at the Music@Menlo International Chamber Music Festival and Institute. In May, as a member of the LGT Young Soloists, Luka toured in six different Asian countries, performing on the MS Europa 2 cruise ship. This year, Luka will be touring in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria performing at the Rheingau Music Festival, Braunwald Music Festival, and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Grand Hall.
Susanne Sevcik

Susanne Sevcik is a 17 year old pianist from Strathmore, Alberta. Since starting piano lessons at the age of 8, her goal has been to share her love of music with as many people as possible! From 2015-2018, Susanne was a piano student in the Academy Program for Young Artists at Mount Royal University and in the spring of 2016 she completed her Royal Conservatory grade 10 exam. She has competed in many piano competitions including the Canadian Music Competition, The Calgary Concerto Competition and has competed in the Alberta Provincial Music Festival for piano, voice, and musical theatre. Also sharing a love for choral music, Susanne has been selected as a member of the Alberta Youth Choir in both 2018 and 2019. Susanne loves collaborating with other musicians and enjoys playing chamber music any chance she gets! Susanne is a board member of the Strathmore Performing Arts Festival and is proud to have been a part of the festival’s inaugural year in 2018. She currently studies piano with Rolf Bertsch, music harmony and history with Stephan Bonfield, and voice and musical theatre with Loralee Laycock. When she isn’t practicing, Susanne enjoys singing with her local choir, skiing, hiking, and watching the various sports played by her three younger siblings.
Anna Stube

13-year-old Anna started playing the violin at the age of five and moved to Canada from Latvia in 2011. She has been studying with William Van der Sloot since 2014 and takes part in the Advanced Performance Program at the Mount Royal Conservatory. Anna has won the Grand Prize in the Canadian Music Competition in the 11-14 category in 2018 and 2019, and recently performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra as a result. Anna has participated in summer music programs such as the “Young Artist Program” in Ottawa
and “Orford Music Academy” in Orford, Montreal. Anna has been a part of the “Morningside Music Bridge” program for 3 years now, in Boston, Warsaw, and Israel, where her piano trio ‘Trio Savyon’ was invited to do a promotional tour in 2017. They were invited again to Calgary in 2018 to play a recital for the Mozart Patron Group of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Anna has played for many acclaimed artists such as Ning Feng, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Midori,
Pinchas Zukerman, James Ehnes, Tong Weidong, and Miriam Fried, among many others. Anna and her mom Daiga (piano) have been playing together for 3 years and performed in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Hamilton (ON). They also frequently perform at charity events, weddings, senior homes, and private functions. Anna also loves reading, swimming, slime, and playing with her little brother Dominik.
Typhen Chan

Typhen Chan is a member of the Advanced Performance Program (APP) at the Academy Program for Young Artists hosted by Mount Royal University. He started playing the violin at the age of 5 under the guidance of Jeremy vanDieman and currently studies with William van der Sloot. Now 16 years old, he has won several prizes in his eleven years of playing the violin locally, provincially, and nationally. He is a two-time winner of the Canadian Music Competition and has been presented with the Grand Prairie & District Encana Music Festival scholarship by the Alberta Music Festival Association. Typhen was also one of four winners of the Rotary Calgary Concerto Competition (RC3) this year and performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the Calgary Civic Symphony. Typhen has also had the opportunity to perform for prestigious guest artists such as James Ehnes, Andres Cardenes, Gerardo Ribeiro, Tong Wei Dong, Ian Swensen, Mauricio Fuks, and Susanne Hou.
Besides his violin, he enjoys playing video games, watching anime, traveling, sleeping, playing the piano, swimming, and arranging or composing pop music.
Kathryn Fakeley

Kathryn Fakeley, age 16, began her cello studies at the age of 6 with Janet Kushak. For the past 5 years, she has been mentored in Calgary by Johanne Perron and John Kadz.
She serves as principal cellist of both the Rosedale Valley Strings Orchestra and Burman University Symphony Orchestra and also studies piano with Dr. Alison Kilgannon. She is a student in the Advanced Performance Program (APP) which is a part of Mount Royal University’s Music Academy in Calgary and has been participating regularly in the local music festivals since 2012, competing in both cello and piano. For multiple years, she has been a provincial candidate for cello, winning first place in 12 and under in 2017, and then first in 16 and under in 2019. Kathryn competed in the Calgary Concerto Competition in 2019 and out of 48 candidates was selected as one of the runners up. She has also been a soloist with Burman University Symphony Orchestra in 2018 and 2019. Kathryn has been competing in the Canadian Music Competition since the age of 12, and was the 3rd place winner for Strings in her age category at the Canadian National Finals in 2019.
Ine Coetzee

Born in 1999, Ine-Wilmé Coetzee is an artist with a unique musical voice. She began her love of the cello at age five with Christine Bootland. She currently studies with John Kadz and Johanne Perron. She was a student in the Advanced Performance Program at Mount Royal University and recently received the ARCT Royal Conservatory of Music diploma. Ine has performed in numerous music festivals and competitions provincially and nationally, such as in the Canadian Music Competition. In 2013, Ine performed as soloist with the Medicine Hat Academy Orchestra under conductor Mélanie Léonard, former assistant director of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. An experienced chamber musician, Ine was a member of the award-winning YIP Piano Trio. In 2017, they received first prize at the Provincial National Class Chamber Music Festival and went on to represent Alberta in the National Music Festival in Ottawa. She is also a member of the Three Sisters Trio, an exciting new ensemble whose mission is to share the love of music with audiences around the world. They recently released two music videos and was invited to perform at the St. Albert Chamber Music Society in November. For three years, Ine was a member of the New West Symphony and Choir. She performs regularly at outreach concerts and other events across Alberta. Ine is currently pursuing her bachelor degree at the Berklee College of Music.
Andrew Park

At first Andrew Park wanted to play the musical saw, but thanks to his mother he now plays the cello. Music has always surrounded Andrew. Whether he was falling asleep to his mother’s Chopin, envying his brother’s Jimi Hendrix like impromptus, or watching his father play the great classics with the Toronto Symphony, all his life, Andrew, has been perplexed with the craft of performing and intrigued by the methods of creating art. Thanks to many mentors and communities Park has had the good fortune of exploring a wide variety of genres. As a youth he toured with the Humberside Symphony Orchestra in Toronto and New York performing the Haydn C Major Concerto; found an escape in rock music as a drummer and vocalist; and learned to express his innermost feelings through song, poetry and dance. As a chamber musician Andrew formed the Walden Trio with friends at the Mount Royal Conservatory performing in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Norway. As a soloist Andrew has performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra in the RBC Concerto Competition and has performed in numerous festivals across Canada. As a composer he is currently working on jazz-classical works incorporating jazz combo and string quartet. With the Pro Musica’s Young Artist Development Program (YADP) Andrew gives presentations and workshops in the Calgary Public School System with guidance from Samantha Whelan Kotkas. Andrew studies with John Kadz & Johanne Perron.
