Josephine Chan

Josephine Chan, 16, is a junior at Stanford Online High School and studies piano performance with Elizabeth Schumann. She is also a scholarship student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She was featured on NPR’s From the Top Show #367 and was invited to participate in the 2019 Junior Van Cliburn Competition and Festival. She was also a quarter-finalist in the International e-Piano Junior Competition 2019. She has won prizes in many piano competitions, including the Golden State Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, Virginia Waring International Piano Competition, Pacific Music Society Competition, Enkor International Piano Competition and San Francisco Chopin Competition. Josephine performs regularly in a trio, and her group placed 1st in the American Prize Chamber Performance Competition. Josephine has attended programs such as the Music@Menlo, PianoTexas Young Artists Program, Tanglewood Young Artists Program, Perugia Music Fest, and Southeastern Piano Festival. She has performed in numerous master classes with many artists, including Yoheved Kaplinsky, Emile Naoumoff, Arie Vardi, Bernd Goetzke, Tamás Ungár, Uta Weyand, Anne-Marie McDermott, and Garrick Ohlsson.

Pierce Wang

Pierce Wang, 16, is a junior at the Stanford Online High School and a scholarship student in the Pre-college Division of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) where he studies the violin with Ms. Alena Tsoi. Pierce started learning the violin when he was two. He gave his first solo recital, the “All Saints’ Day” program, in the fall of 2013, followed by his second solo recital on Valentine’s Day 2015. In the spring of 2014, Pierce appeared on the NPR, From the Top (FTT) live taping show #284 in Rochester (NY) where he performed H.W. Ernst's transcription of the song Der Erlkönig by Franz Schubert, for unaccompanied violin and was a guest on Backstage Pass (a WXXI live radio show) with FTT host, Christopher O'Reilly, and featured guests, Sir James and Lady Galway. That same year, Pierce debuted as soloist with the Fremont Symphony Orchestra, followed by appearances with the Saratoga Symphony (under Dr./Maestro Jason Klein), Symphony Parnassus (Maestro Stephen Paulson), and Solano Symphony (Maestro Semyon Lohss) in the ensuing years. Pierce is a member of The Bach Trio with pianist Josephine Chan and cellist Ryan Har. The Trio performs regularly in venues around the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to joining Ms. Tsoi's violin studio, Pierce studied with Prof. Wei He and Mr. Davis Law at the SFCM. He started on violin with Mr. Andy Liu in Saratoga.

Isabelle Fromme

Isabelle Fromme is a high school senior at Ruth Asawa School of the Arts in San Francisco. She has studied cello and piano for twelve years with her father, Randolph Fromme (cellist), and her mother, Shu Li (pianist).  For five years, she participated in the San Francisco Pre-College program as both a pianist and cellist, which expanded her knowledge of music and helped her grow as a chamber musician.  Masterclasses include those with Matt Haimovitz at the San Francisco Conservatory and with members of the Telegraph Quartet and Alexander Quartet at SF State.  For the past two years, Isabelle has been apart of Ruth Asawa's Dragon Quartet, which has received coachings with members of the Kronos Quartet, and has been one of the featured ensembles in the Kronos Festival, which takes place at the SF Jazz Center.  In the Junior Bach Festival, Isabelle has performed as a soloist on both instruments, as well as an accompanist. She also placed second and third place in the United States Open Music Competition for piano.  Isabelle is a member of the San Francisco Youth Orchestra, which completed a very successful tour around Europe this summer.  The orchestra performed with soloist Nicola Benedetti as well as Karen Gomyo. In addition, she has participated in summer music festivals including the San Domenico Music Festival, Dominican Chamber Music Camp at Dominican University, Lancaster International Piano Festival, and Summer Music West at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In her spare time, she enjoys photography, drawing, and spending time with friends.

Ryan Har

Ryan Har, 17, is a senior at Stanford Online High School and a scholarship student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Pre-College Division. Ryan won first prize in The American Prize, first in American Protégé, and second prize in the Enkor International Music Competition in 2017. Prior to that, he had solo performances at Weill Recital Hall in 2017 and the SFCM Classical Kick-Off Weekend in 2016. He and his trio were quarterfinalists in the Fischoff Competition, and they placed first in The American Prize in 2017, second in the Enkor International Music Competition in 2017, and first place at the Diablo Valley College/Holy Names University Young Artists String Competition in 2016. In addition, they have performed in the Concerts at the Presidio series in San Francisco. Ryan has taken masterclasses from Bonnie Hampton, Ben Hong, Julia Lichten and Hans Jorgen Jensen. He is currently studying cello under Bonnie Hampton and chamber music with Joseph Maile and Amy Zanrosso. Outside of music, Ryan holds a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and enjoys math and philosophy.
